Dr. Yingbin Hu joined the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Mississippi State University as an assistant professor in 2024. Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Hu was an assistant professor at Miami University. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University in 2019, his M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in 2015, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Shandong University in 2013.

Dr. Hu’s research interests lie in the broad areas of additive manufacturing, materials processing, and advanced machining. Specifically, his research focuses on (1) additive manufacturing of composites, ceramics, and biomaterials, (2) ultrasonic vibration-assisted laser additive manufacturing, (3) laser alloying of metallic materials, and (4) rotary ultrasonic machining of hard materials. The technological knowledge obtained from his research has been disseminated through more than 70 peer-reviewed academic works, including journal articles, conference proceedings, and patents. These works have been published in top-tier journals such as Composites Part B: Engineering, Materials Horizons, and Additive Manufacturing.

Dr. Hu is a recipient of the Miami University Junior Faculty Scholar Award. He is an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). Currently, Dr. Hu serves as an associate editor for the Materials journal and acts as a guest editor for a special issue. He is also a guest editor for the Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing.
