Jessica M. González-Vargas, Ph.D., joined the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Mississippi State University in 2024. Dr. González-Vargas is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and earned her Ph.D. in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 2023. She also received her M.S from The Pennsylvania State University and her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez).
Dr. González-Vargas’ research integrates human factors, usability, user-centered design, systems engineering, and cutting-edge technologies to improve training, education, user experience, and patient safety. Her work specifically focuses on improving medical simulation-based training, healthcare systems, healthcare processes, patient outcomes, and quality of life. By leveraging innovative tools and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, she aims to address critical gaps in healthcare training, education, and delivery.
Her publications have appeared in journals such as The American Journal of Surgery, Journal of Surgical Education, Simulation in Healthcare, and Human Factors in Healthcare. She is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
